DDR (Double Data Rate) is a type of SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory). It has double the bandwidth of it's predecessor, SDRAM. DDR SDRAM is the most common type of desktop RAM.
The transfer rate of DDR SDRAM is determined by the formula: (clock rate) x (dual rate) x (number of bits transferred) / (number of bits per byte). For example, a stick of DDR SDRAM with a clock rate of (133)mhz x (2) data rate x (64) transfer rate / (8) bits per byte, would have a maximum transfer rate of 2100MB/s and would therefore be listed as PC-2100 RAM.
