DDR2 (Double Data Rate Two) SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory) is another type of RAM in the SDRAM family. It is the widely popular successor to DDR SDRAM, and used in most recent computers.
The difference between DDR and DDR2 is that the latter transfers data twice as fast is the former. This is achieved by operating the memory cells at half the clock rate of DDR SDRAM, and by improving bus signal. For example, if a stick of DDR SDRAM operating at 133mhz has a maximum transfer rate of 2100MB/s, then a stick of DDR2 SDRAM operating at the same clock rate would have a maximum rate of 4200MS/s.
