DDR3 (Double Data Rate Three) SDRAM is another member of the DDR family. The primary difference between DDR3 and it's predecessor, DDR2, is the ability to transfer I/O data at 8x the speed of the memory cells it contains.
Also, the new standard of DDR3 allows for chip sizes of 512Mb to 8Gb each, allowing for a maximum RAM module capacity of 16GB.
